What is Multi-Protocol Label Switching, MPLS?

To understand MPLS (Multi Protocol Label Switching), you must first know that there is no service, but a technique. This technique is used for the delivery of services such as IP VPN and Metro Ethernet optical services. While Carrier MPLS backbone network design, not the actual purchase of a company called MPLS services, but are known as IP-VPN, Metro Ethernet, or other names in the industry that decides on the label.

labeling packages are the fundamental concept behind MPLS.Standard IP routing networks with routers made by each individual to decide where to send the package to package every time he came to the router. This decision is entirely based on network layer packet header.

When a packet network, you get), there was a specific forwarding equivalence class (FEC gives a short bit sequence (label) to the package. Tables for each router in the network are then used as identification for the Packagea particular FEC must be treated. header analysis is no longer necessary once the packet enters the network. Instead, a new FEC will be used every time the label from the router for the index in a table.

The tables provide a consistent MPLS packets species) based on their individual characteristics (ie packets from designated ports or packages with data for specific applications. During a challenging task, the realization of packets in real-time traffic information (ie, voice and video)may have priority over others with regard to connections with low latency in the network. The important thing to remember, are labels of "fixation" most of the information used as each packet, which originally had the router.
